The ELEOS total femoral adapter’s rollout grows Onkos’ portfolio to support patients needing complete femoral replacement.
September 17, 2026
By: Sam Brusco
Onkos Surgical has released its ELEOS total femoral adapter with NanoCept antibacterial technology, growing NanoCept’s availability for patients undergoing complex and high-risk orthopedic reconstruction surgeries.
Since its December 2024 launch, the antibacterial technology has been available on ELEOS implant midsections for complex knee and hip reconstructions, with over 500 patients receiving NanoCept-equipped implants to date. The ELEOS total femoral adapter’s rollout grows Onkos’ portfolio to support patients needing complete femoral replacement.
“It is incredibly reassuring to know that patients requiring a total femoral replacement will now have access to antibacterial implants,” said Julia Visgauss, MD, Chief of the Orthopaedic Oncology Division at Duke Health. “Total femurs are among the most complex procedures we perform, and many of the patients who require them are already immunocompromised.”
In June, NanoCept earned U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for use on the ELEOS limb salvage system’s titanium implants. A new 4,600-square-foot Innovation Center for the technology opened in Bridgewater, N.J. in December 2025—the total femoral adapter will be the first product produced and coated there.
Onkos said it expects to expand the innovation center and have the antibacterial coating on further ELEOS products in the coming months.
“Today is a real high point for Onkos,” said Onkos co-founder and CEO Patrick Treacy. “As we continue to expand the ELEOS with NanoCept product offering, it is fitting that we begin with Total Femoral Replacement, supporting some of the most vulnerable patients undergoing complex orthopedic oncology and revision procedures.”
